The Jefferson County, Tennessee Genealogical Society (JCGS) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to bring people together to promote fellowship and cooperation between persons who are interested in discovering their own family history. We collect, preserve and make research data available to those who are researching family histories concerning past and present families of Jefferson County, Tennessee.
The JCGS meets on the third Monday of every month (except December) at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, at 1610 Russell Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760. Visitors are welcomed. Society membership is $20.00 per calendar year for an individual and $25 per family, renewable in January, which includes two issues (Spring and Fall) of the JCGS newsletter, the Journal. Each issue of the Journal contains Jefferson county records, documents, and other items of interest.

The - Jefferson County Archives are located on the second floor of the historic Jefferson County Courthouse on the corner of Main and Gay Streets in downtown Dandridge. The Archive's collection includes microfilm records, reference books, and courthouse records dating back to 1792. The archive is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 3:00. With a mission To preserve, promote, and foster the history of Jefferson County, Tennessee, the Jefferson County Museum located in the courthouse has an extensive collection of area artifacts and features a visual presentation of the history of the county from 1792 to the present.
The Dandridge Memorial Library overlooking Douglas Lake is located at 1235 Circle Drive in Dandridge. The library houses a genealogy collection that includes local and family histories.
The Stevens-Burnett Memorial Library at 1446 Russell Avenue on the campus of Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City maintains different hours depending on the school term. Call 865-471-3335 for hours and more information.
The Knox County Public Library maintains the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection at the East Tennessee History Center at 601 South Gay Street in Knoxville, Tennessee. You will find a variety of resources at the East Tennessee History Center to help you learn more about your family or to advance your research. You can participate in genealogy classes for all levels of experience and topics, take advantage of a premier research library, a genealogy magazine, and find information on events and research facilities across the region. ETHS is an adjunct to and headquartered with the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection of the Knox County Public Library.
The Knox County Archives preserves and provides public access to the permanent records of this historic county (1792-present) at 601 Gay Street in Knoxville, Tennessee. These records include deeds, marriages, divorces, school records, various court records, and more. Records have suffered no major destruction and are remarkably intact.
